HG Wells

For a D&AD brief  for Orion Books. The brief was to create a striking contemporary design that would establish these novels as timeless literature. These books are hardback, with the design printed directly on to the binding, getting rid of the usual fabric cover we see.

The Smuggler's Steps

The Smuggler's Steps is the ISTD brief, True Geographies which required using a typographic narrative in a landscape of my choice, and present it some a tangible way. I chose, these steps in the Ayrshire town of the Maidens, which lead into Culzean Castle's grounds and in the 18th Century was a notorious spot on the Firth of Clyde for smugglers. The poetry used is selected songs by Hugh Ainslie. The main concept behind the piece was to highlight the areas' history, while trying to inspire those who walk on these steps to explore the trails and awesome caves and also that there is (as much as I love him) a lot more to Ayrshire's literature than Robert Burns!
